Question #48:

They say that twin-engine airplanes are safer then four-engine aircraft. What is your opinion?

Answer:

In my opinion, four‑engine aircraft are safer than twin‑engine aircraft. For example, in case of engine failure, a twin‑engine aircraft must immediately divert to an alternate airport, while a four‑engine aircraft can continue the flight. However, twin‑engine aircraft are the future because they provide more benefits for airline companies. Moreover, modern engines are sufficiently reliable today.

I would argue that modern twin-engine aircraft are just as safe, if not safer, than four-engine aircraft, primarily because of their advanced technology, rigorous certification processes, and the high reliability of modern engines. However, safety always depends on proper maintenance, pilot training, and operational procedures rather than the number of engines alone. Both types are incredibly safe, and their design philosophies cater to slightly different operational needs.
