Thunderstorm is usually associated with heavy precipitation, typically heavy rain, heavy snow, hail, thunder, lightning. All these natural phenomena can be hazardous for aircraft.

There are certain weather phenomena that you really want to avoid no matter what when you’re flying. For instance, if there are severe thunderstorms, heavy icing conditions, or significant volcanic ash clouds, you absolutely want to steer clear of those. In other words, if those conditions are present, pilots will do their best to reroute and avoid them entirely to keep the flight safe. In summary, some weather phenomena are just a no-go, and pilots will always aim to avoid them in any case.
