Nearest Available Airport: The closest airport where the plane can land safely in an emergency. It may not have all needed services (like fuel or repairs). Nearest Suitable Airport: A bit farther away, but has all necessary facilities (runway length, weather conditions, services). Better for passengers and crew in non-emergency situations. Simple difference: "Available" = closest possible landing. "Suitable" = better equipped but may be farther.

There’s an important difference between the nearest available and the nearest suitable alternate airport. The nearest available airport is simply the closest one in terms of distance. However, the nearest suitable airport takes into account whether that airport has the right facilities, runway length, weather conditions, and support for the type of aircraft and situation. In other words, the nearest suitable airport is the closest one that actually meets all your operational needs for a safe landing.
