A passenger aircraft may be intercepted or escorted by military aircraft if it loses communication with air traffic control, flies into restricted or prohibited airspace, or does not follow the given route. It may also happen if the aircraft is suspected of being hijacked or if there is a serious security threat on board. They would try to visually identify the plane, attempt communication, and follow established safety procedures. If the plane still didn’t respond, they might escort it to a specific airport or take whatever actions are necessary according to that country’s defense protocols. In short, military interception is a standard precaution to keep everyone safe.
