What is minimum equipment list used for?

Answer:

The Minimum Equipment List is a document approved by the aviation authority that allows an aircraft to be dispatched with certain inoperative equipment. It may contain operation limitations, specific requiremets and procedures that must be done before the flight. The MEL ensures that safety is not compromised while allowing operational flexibility.

It’s a list of systems, instruments and equipment on an aircraft which are not required to be operative for flight. It is used only on ground before engine start-up. If problems occur, we will check MEL for the relative information to decide whether to continue the flight or not. MEL tells us what kind of problesm can be accepted to continue the flight under specific conditions.
