If I were to recall situations like that, I’d say that there have certainly been times when a local accent made it a bit challenging to understand ATC instructions. Especially there were the cases with Indian, Chinese and Thai ATCs. In those cases, the best practice was to rely on standard phraseology and, if needed, politely ask the controller to repeat or confirm the instruction. Essentially, it was all about staying professional and making sure communication was crystal clear.
