I would generally disagree that pilots are driven solely by financial motives. If a pilot were only in it for the financial rewards, then they might find it difficult to maintain long-term enthusiasm during the irregular hours, the rigorous training, and the high responsibility that come with the job. In other words, if they were only chasing a paycheck, they might not find the role sustainable. In reality, most pilots have a genuine passion for aviation, a commitment to safety, and a drive for continuous professional development. If you blend financial incentives with these intrinsic motivations, the career becomes far more rewarding and sustainable. So, in summary, I’d say I largely disagree. If you factor in the conditional nature of the job, it’s clear that financial motives alone wouldn’t be sufficient for most pilots to stay engaged in the long run.
